CHIPPEWA County, Michigan – On June 27, 2020, Chippewa County Health
Department (CCHD) was notified two Chippewa County residents had tested positive for
COVID-19. The identified individuals are adult males ages 61 and 70. The individuals
began developing symptoms approximately one week ago and then tested positive. The
individuals are under home isolation in accordance with current guidelines. CCHD staff
notified people who were identified as close contacts (also called “contact tracing”). The
identified contacts will be assessed for symptoms and monitored appropriately.
Upon notification of positive cases, CCHD staff quickly begin contact tracing and case
investigation. Case counts may become available at Michigan.gov/coronavirus before the
health department has gathered accurate and appropriate information to determine what
can be disseminated to the public.
While Chippewa County is in Phase 5 of Michigan’s Reopening Plan, CCHD has been
expecting additional cases as the State of Michigan continues to expand openings.
Chippewa County residents should take precautions and make choices to protect
themselves.
Residents should always assume the virus is present when they are in public places and
take all recommended prevention measures. CCHD strongly urges our community to
continue with social distancing guidelines, wearing face coverings as appropriate, and
avoiding large gatherings, especially in enclosed places for prolonged periods of time to
avoid sustained contact.
People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to safely recover at home. Seek
medical care if your symptoms worsen by calling ahead to your provider. COVID-19
symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure to the
virus. Symptoms may include fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell,
and/or diarrhea.
